About the Program
The Under-4 (U4) Introductory program allows young children to participate in our soccer program. The U4 division is a purely instructional program that utilizes fun activities to introduce basic soccer skills without the pressures of the competitive nature of the game. Activities are designed to teach skills like dribbling, shooting and identifying the names of the areas on a soccer field.
Players are grouped into teams at the start of the season, and you can request that your child be assigned with a special friend or coach. Your child’s team will share a small soccer field with a different team every week, and activities include games with the other team. These are not traditional soccer games, but group-oriented games where every child has opportunities for time with the soccer ball.
When We Play
U4 sessions are scheduled on Saturday mornings, and generally last around 45 minutes, depending on how long the children want to play. There are no separate practices.
We do not schedule make-up dates for U4 sessions that are rained out, because of the difficulty of finding a week-day time that suits children of this age.
Who Can Play
The U4 program is for players who are under four on April 1st (Spring season) or October 1st (Fall season). There is no lower age-limit, but players must be out of diapers and ready to take part in an organized program.
We strongly recommend registering early, as the number of teams, and therefore players, is limited by the willingness of parents to volunteer to coach. Registration in this division usually closes several weeks before the start of the season.
Please consider helping your child by volunteering to coach. We always need coaches in this age-group, and by getting involved you can learn more about the game and help your child and the team.
